Teaching the jujutsu and kuatsu arts of late Professor Kam Hock Hoe (1903-1990), graduate & grandmaster of the Kyoto Kokusai Jujutsu Dai Gakuin, Japan.

Instructors

John R. Bear shihan, holds Kokusai Jujutsu Ryu 9th dan jujutsu and 7th dan KJR kobudo (Japanese jujutsu weaponry arts). He has a specialist degree in the Japanese arts of Kuatsu. He has long standing sports qualifications as a nationally accredited jujutsu coach, strength & conditioning coach. sports trainer and first-aider. Bear also holds dan ranks in Iaido (Japanese sword) 3rd dan, Shotokan karate 3rd dan, Jodo (Japanese short staff) 2nd dan, with ranks in other martial arts. He led an Australian Jujutsu Kata Team which won a Silver medal at the 6th WCJJO World Ju-Jitsu Championships in New Zealand in 1995.

A recipient of 2000 Australian Sports Medal from the Australian Government for services to sport in Canberra, he was also inducted into the 2006 Australasian Martial Arts Hall of Fame (AMAHOF). He is Director, Kokusai Jujutsu Ryu-International Jujutsu Institute, Vice President, ACT Kendo Renmei and has been teaching martial arts in the Australian Capital Territory and region since 1970. Together with jujutsu, he teaches separate classes in KJR Kobudo (Japanese weapons) and Australian Kendo Renmei Iaido and Jodo.

Douglas Venables renshi, holds Kokusai Jujutsu Ryu 6th dan jujutsu, a Kuatsu Specialist degree and 2nd dan in KJR kobudo. He has long standing sports qualifications as a nationally accredited jujutsu coach and first-aider. He has extensive training in combative arts and is currently a professional physical instructor with the Australian Federal Police. He joined the KJR-IJI in 1992 and was a member of the 1995 Australian Jujutsu Kata Team. Since his recent return to Canberra, he is a regular instructor at local KJR classes and workshops

David Clarke sensei, holds Kokusai Jujutsu Ryu 4th dan jujutsu, a Kuatsu Specialist degree and 1st dan in KJR kobudo. He has sports qualifications as a nationally accredited jujutsu coach. He joined KJR-IJI in 2002.


Local KJR kobudo coaches (Kobudo or specialised Japanese weaponry classes operates within the KJR-IJI under a separate ranking system and technical syllabus - members may study this division of the Institute without participating in jujutsu classes.)
